A bright, refreshing Kölsch-style ale inspired by the clear, steady chalk streams of the Chiltern Hills.

Chalk Stream combines the smooth drinkability of a pale ale with the clean, refined character that makes the Kölsch style so enduringly popular. Light golden in colour, it’s a beer brewed for long alfresco evenings, lighter food, and returning to the glass more often than originally intended.

Character & Style

Brewed with Pilsner, lager and wheat malts, Chalk Stream has a smooth, refined body with a gentle crispness running throughout.

The hop pairing of Hallertauer Mittelfrüh and Akoya brings soft floral notes, subtle herbal spice and delicate citrus character — think lemon zest, lime and a clean, lightly drying finish. Balanced bitterness and a soft malt backbone keep everything composed and highly drinkable.

A Style Close to Home

Kölsch-style beers sit closer to English ale than many people might expect, using a similar top-fermenting yeast to the one we know well here at the brewery.

It’s also a style we’ve long had a fondness for. We have family in Cologne — the home of Kölsch — and visits there over the years introduced us to the wonderfully delicate, moreish beers served across the city.

This is our Chiltern take on that tradition.
